The Rink at Royal Oak

What’s It All About?

Bordered by Third and Troy Streets, The Rink At Royal Oak made its comeback for the second year in a row to Centennial Commons in Downtown Royal Oak on November 17th, 2023. The Rink features a 60 by 90’ foot skating rink from Ice Rink Events and will feature great music, lighting, special events and offers throughout its three-month run, which ended on Feb 19th, 2024.

Parking is free for the first two hours (only 75 cents/hr after) just steps away at the 11 mile parking deck. There are also more than 50 restaurants, stores and entertainment establishments within a short block of the rink.  So plan the day or night and skate, dine and shop throughout the holiday season and beyond.

In addition to the skating, you can also roast marshmallows, warm up with outdoor heaters and fire pits, and find warmth in the Royal Oak Public Library Warming Center and check out your favorite book in the process.

Located in Centennial Commons

Centennial Commons opened to the public in 2021 to coincide with Royal Oak's 100th anniversary. The two-acre park is at the heart of a public-private development consisting of four projects, including a new city hall and police station.

The park design is compelling, creative, entertaining and transformative. Where there was once a parking lot and functionally obsolete buildings, there are now quality public gardens, lawns, play areas, a water feature and rock-climbing wall. The design layout provides visitors with spaces for relaxation, rejuvenation and recreation in center of a lively downtown.

The Barbara A Hallman Memorial Plaza, which is part of Centennial Commons, includes The Star Dream Fountain, a contemporary sculpture crafted by the late Marshall Fredericks, and the Veterans War Memorial. The memorial commemorates Canadian and U.S. Forces, and Royal Oak military service personnel who died in World Wars I and II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
